When are Auditions for Civitas 2024?

The Auditions for Civitas Independent are September 24th, October 8th, and callbacks October 22nd at Indian Land High School. We encourage you to attend all of the audition dates as it will give you the best opportunity to receive feedback from instructors. This will give you a better chance to make the group.

What is the age limit?

As per WGI stipulations, performers shall not be over 22 years of age as of 12:01 AM on April 1, 2024.

What should I do to prepare for the Audition?

1.         You must fill out an audition form listing the instrument you are auditioning on.
2.         There is a one-time fee of $75 to register.
3.         You must purchase your audition packet download.  There is a $25 fee for the audition packet.
4.         If you want to be a part of Civitas you must Practice, Practice, Practice!

Civitas is interested in talented performers with the right attitude and work ethic. The best steps you can take toward that are coming to auditions with a full command of the audition material and an open mind.

What WGI classification is Civitas competing in this season?

Civitas will compete in the Percussion Independent Open class for the 2024 season.

Can I be in Civitas and in school also?

Yes, you are encouraged to have a job or be in school while participating as a performer in Civitas.  We will hold all rehearsals on the weekend. Rehearsals will start at 8:00pm on Friday and will end Sunday at 4.

How much does it cost?

There is a one-time Audition Fee of $75. Membership dues are $1950. Payment due dates are scheduled throughout the season for those who cannot pay in one lump sum. Fundraising opportunities will be given throughout the season. Civitas does everything possible to manage expenses to keep dues as low as possible. Our instructional and support staff largely donate their time. Dues must be paid in full on the required due date or you will be dismissed from the ensemble.

NOTE: Fundraising opportunities may be provided throughout the season and all members are expected to participate.

The membership tuition goes directly to supporting the ensemble and the members by allowing the purchase and payment of the equipment and services used throughout the season, including:

  • Instruments, sticks and mallets, uniforms, floors, props, etc.

  • Membership fees for CWEA and WGI

  • Entry fees to the shows

  • Travel expenses (charter bus, fuel, equipment trucks, hotel reservations, etc.)

What other expenses do we have throughout the year?

Not included in the membership dues are expenses like a Civitas jacket (app. $90).

Do you provide housing?

Civitas does NOT provide housing during the standard weekend camps. However, once the ensemble is set, Civitas will help make arrangements to try to ensure that members all have a place to stay for camp weekends. NOTE: We will provide housing for some out of town shows and WGI Finals.

What is the rehearsal and performance schedule for the season?

After auditions, there are rehearsals and/or performances every weekend for the duration of the season. This will be updated on the Schedule page once Contest Dates have been set.

Can I still teach a high school program?

It is our hope that performers from Civitas would have an interest in teaching high school groups in the area. Often there are many opportunities. Becoming part of Civitas, you will realize all members involved make many sacrifices. One is the sacrifice of time. Attendance at camps is mandatory. Even with teaching other groups, one must understand that you have made a commitment to be a performer in Civitas. School related activities that are a part of the grade for the class, and family emergencies have been excused in the past. Time management of your family, school, work, and social schedules need to allow you to attend every rehearsal.
