Civitas Independent was founded in 2014, providing music education and performance opportunities for the state of South Carolina and surrounding areas. Starting as in Independent A, Civitas quickly grew to become one of the premier Open Class ensembles; earning a silver medal and 2nd place finish in 2022 at the WGI World Championships. With a talented design team and dedicated instructional staff, Civitas serve to not only educate our performers but to provide a quality experience that will foster friendships and skill sets that they can carry on in life.

Our staff members have backgrounds in DCI and WGI and they teach in other programs across the country. These programs include not only drum corps and independent ensembles but private lessons, high school, and middle school percussion, wind, and even string programs. The majority of our members, in addition to school and work, teach music in programs throughout the area.

Civitas Independent prioritizes creating a culture of mutual respect, hard work, and care. Civitas also aims to connect with local schools and students through educational clinics. Civitas is a part of the Carolina Winter Ensemble Association and Winter Guard International circuits.
